Rich Hoppe presents our State Farm Student of the Year Award to Bryant Kennedy of Hinsdale.

State Farm Student of the Year Award winner Bryant Kennedy of Hinsdale.

Student of the Year: Bryant Kennedy

I would like to nominate my grandson, Bryant Kennedy, a senior at Hinsdale High School, as your Student of the Month. Bryant is a kind-hearted young man, an outstanding student and current member of the National Honor Society. He is active in community service and recently took a leading role in Project Feed the Thousands in Hinsdale. He helps with the after school program at the elementary school in Hinsdale, and during the summer you can find him at the Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department working at the summer camp. Bryant will attend the University of New Haven in the fall where he will major in political science.

As a member of the National Honor Society Bryant's role along with another member was to schedule a meeting at the elementary school with his advisor, and Principles from both schools. They coordinated a contest with each grade to see which class could collect the most food, it was then loaded on a school bus and delivered to the Town Meeting in Hinsdale, where it was given to the local food pantry, along with cash donations. He also installed locked boxes for donations throughout the school.

His other services included maintaining the marquee in front of the school with upcoming events, volunteering as a camp counselor for the Hinsdale Summer Camp program for three years, and doing face painting for the last 3 year's at the annual River Valley Kids Fair in Brattleboro. While working at the After School Program at the elementary school this year, Bryant has taught a chemistry class where, using Mentos and soda, they made rockets and a fountain; they also made lava lamps; and he taught soccer and a physics class.

His summer camp duties at the Brattleboro Rec have been supervising the kids with games and swimming. This year he will be a program leader, and will be working at the events for Brattleboro's annual 4th of July Celebration, including marching in the parade and helping out at the pool party.

Bryant has never worked with any police, and it was his 10th grade biology teacher Fred Wolf who most inspired him. He received a chemistry award for Outstanding Student, and Mr. Wolf's Human Anatomy Class and Physiology Class reinforced his love for forensic science.

Bryant's other accomplishments this year have been being awarded the Coach's Award in soccer, and recently won the N.H. Athletic Directors Association Scholar Athlete Award. This award is given to a Senior who has maintained a 3.5 GPA, played 2 varsity sports, is a positive role model, and is nominated by his or her Athletic Director and Principal. Most recently, he won The Robin Beauregard Memorial Award in Basketball. The award goes to a Senior Boy and Girl annually who is a hard worker on and off the court, a team player and a positive role model. When presented with this award by his Coach at the Winter Sports Banquet, he said Bryant was a true ambassador to Hinsdale High School. In his spare time Bryant finds the time to mow our lawn, and last
week after school helped his great-grandmother by cleaning her woodwork and shampooing her carpet. When his brother or little cousins need help with their homework he is always there to help. He is just the most well mannered 18 year old you will ever meet. He's awesome and I love him so much.

Thank you from a very proud Gramma.
